It's now almost 9.30 pm and we've just returned home from being out virtually the whole day. We are so tired, but it has been an amazing day in Zurich, which is fast becoming our favourite city. We commenced bright and early this morning with a train and a cable car to Felsenegg. Once at the top, we were simply blown away by the vista across the Swiss Alps on one side, and across into Germany on the other. It seemed as if you could see forever and, at the time, we would have thought no other view could surpass it for beauty; we were to be proven wrong.

After returning in the cable car, the train took us back to Zurich central station from where we then took a tram and a funicular to Rigiblick, for another set of amazing views, this time from the other side of the lake. We completed the morning (yes, we'd done all this and it was only 11.30 am) with yet another train trip up yet another mountain to Uetliberg lookout, with even more stunning views of the Alps. We thought we'd return here in the evening for a short walk through the forest just as the sun was going to set, but we had no idea of what we were in for when we did return, but more of that later.
After returning to our apartment for a relaxing lunch, we headed off for a 75-minute cruise on Lake Zurich. It has been a spectacular day weather wise, and it seems that almost every resident of the city was out, on or around the lake. The cruise was beautiful, if somewhat crowded, and it also gave us some time off our feet.

After a home cooked meal of chicken cordon bleu and potato rosti (it was very yummy), we headed off for Uetliberg which we'd been to earlier in the day. Although it was pretty late when we arrived, we took off on a short walk which led us unintentionally to the highest lookout point in Zurich; 970 metres above sea level to be exact. Although it cost us two francs each to be able to climb to the top, the view once there was worth ten times that much. Alison and I are still pinching ourselves to make sure we weren't dreaming it. Stunning, breathtaking, majestic all seem totally inadequate ways to describe what we saw. It's probably best if I let the photo speak for itself (and even it doesn't do justice to the reality of what we saw).

Tomorrow, hopefully after a good night's sleep, we venture down to Lucerne, on Lake Lucerne. Providing the weather holds, we will then take the steepest train in the world to the top of Mount Pilatus, for some of the best views over this part of the Alps. We are also hoping to do a cruise on the lake. A very expensive trip but, oh well, I guess we're just spending the girls' inheritance.
