Wow, we're in Lyon and wow is all I can say

What a hectic 24 hours it's been. Our bus was delayed leaving Geneva by over two hours and arrived at Lyon almost three hours late. By this time, we'd missed our connecting local bus and had to walk almost three kilometres over centuries old cobble stoned streets to get to our accommodation. Once there, little did we know it was up three flights of centuries old stone steps, very narrow and steep. To say we were wrecked would be somewhat of an understatement.

This is the Saone River, a stone's throw from where we're staying

However, waking up this morning it began to dawn on us where we were. We are right smack in the middle of the oldest part of Lyon. Our very apartment is in a building which is around five centuries old. We are literally a thirty second walk from the Saone river,  and five minutes from the Rhone, which also runs through Geneva. We are in an area renowned for its restaurants, cafes, patisseries and french bake houses. Even if you were locked away in a room for a hour, you couldn't come up with anything more quintessentially French.

This is the area in which we are staying, feeling jealous?

Our two hour bus trip here took us through some of the most beautiful French countryside you could imagine. With the snow covered peaks of the Swiss/Italian Alps receding behind us, and a mixture of open farmland and deep valleys ahead, it was a memorable way to leave Switzerland (if only for the time being, we'll be back in a week). I just love those little French villages you see in films, and they are as quaint and rustic as they appear. What an idyllic life (I've already put in an offer on 100 acres, lol).

This is inside our very own building. At is late 15th century.

At the moment we're lunching on fresh baguette with salami and emmental cheese, how very French. We're also checking out which restaurant to eat at tonight. I can't get over how cheap everything is here in France. You can get three courses for lunch for around 20 Euro each, that's only $60 for lunch! Sorry, I should explain myself; cheap in comparison to Geneva, where the same meal would have set us back perhaps double. We figure most Swiss must be into protection rackets or drug pushing in order to afford their cost of living. Don't let anybody tell you prices in Australia are amongst the highest in world, they're actually quite reasonable.

Au revoir till next time.
